The Pickled Pedallers are a group of keen casual/social riders who have formed a mutually supportive riding group on Auckland's North Shore, to train, have fun, and ride in cycling events throughout New Zealand.
From humble beginnings our numbers have grown along with our levels of fitness and the types of events we enter and compete in.
We cater to all levels of abilities and fitness, and encourage new
riders to come along and join us. |
An Overview
Early in 2006 a small group of people decided that cycling was the ideal form of exercise for us to lose weight, get fit and meet new people, and wanted to ride with like-minded people of mixed abilities.
We went on a number of rides with other groups but found that we could not keep up with them and when we dropped off the bunches, we were left to our own devices. We decided that that was not for us and, in conjunction with online retailer "rrage.com" and "Pickles on Apollo Deli Cafe", we formed the "Pickled Pedallers" with the motto: "We all start together, we all finish together". Riding every Sunday the group, has expanded to approximately 15 regular riders, with more joining each week, and undertaking distances from 40km - 100km plus depending on the group / weather / upcoming events. Recently the bunch size has increased to about 24 riders. We usually try to average around 24 - 26km/h over the distance ridden - but this varies (up and down) depending on the weather, traffic, gear failure and the consensus of the group. We do not ride non-stop - we usually choose a point on the route where we will wait for the slower riders to catch up so that no-one gets left behind. We finish our Sunday ride with a coffee and a feed at
Mozaik Cafe on the corner of Constellation and Parkway Drives.
