May 2010

Take in some of New Zealand's most beautiful scenery as you cycle from Rotorua to Whakatane.

The unique 90km course has been designed to pass four stunning lakes as it winds up the undulating terrain of State Highway 30. Riders will pass forest sections, over the Rotomas to the Rangitaiki plains, rolling through Te Teko to Awakeri and onto the finish in Whakatane.

This ride is around 125km.

July 2010

This is a road ride which has been running since July 1999, with rider numbers increasing each year to around 800 cyclists. The ride starts at the Okoroire Community Hall which provides shelter and the ability to provide hot Tea and Coffee after the finish. Porta-Loos are available here also. There is limited parking in the immediate hall area, so please be prepared to park along the road verges, having consideration for other road users and ride participants.

The 40km option is predominantly flat with undulating hills for the last 10km or so. A perfect ride for those new to cycling or those who take the winter off from training. Riders in this section typically take between 1hr 15min through to 3hr 30min.

The 70km is also flat for the first half, with undulating hills in the last half. The fast riders are back in around 2 hours with the more social taking up to 3hr 30min arriving back just in time for the drawing of spot prizes at 1.30 pm. This is a great ride for those who need a goal during winter or just to kick start their training for around Taupo in November. A "Tail End Charlie" is provided for this ride, just in case you have a mechanical problem that can not be easily fixed and need a ride to the finish.

There has been the occasional wet day (especially 2007) and some quite cold ones, but riders have always enjoyed the event. Please be prepared for all weather conditions as it is winter and can be cold or even wet.

Remember this is a FUN RIDE. I am sure you will enjoy the roads and the scenery.

Coach's Comments: This is an A1 ride (on a fine day), but can be very cold. Ride starts at 10am for the 70km riders and 5 minutes later for the 40km riders, with Spot Prizes drawn at 1.30pm.

This ride is a low-key event and lots of fun - there was a huge turnout for 2009 and the weather was perfect (though the temperatures were well under double figures for much of the ride!)

October 2010

Australia's premier bike challenge, with 250km, 210km, 100km, 80km and 50km ride options.

Choose your challenge.

Around the Bay in a Day enables all bike riders to participate in Australia's largest single day bike ride and meet the challenge of riding around Port Phillip Bay. In its 17th year, we had over 15,600 riders participate in five different ride options.

The course is two laps of a 50km circuit which takes you out of Pukekohe on SH 22 for 7km before turning left into Glenbrook Road.

You then ride out toward the historic town of Waiuku before turning left and beginning your return journey to Pukekohe through some fantastic undulating countryside.
